A Fun Way To Help Cold SpringWhen you’re looking for the perfect gift for your child or friend, consider Jesse’s Toys (185 Boston Post Road, Orange) and Evan’s Toy Shoppe (1647 Whitney Avenue, Hamden). Jesse’s and Evan’s will donate 10% of the total purchase to our school when you mention you are a Cold Spring family. Both stores have an extensive selection of well-designed and crafted toys and will make shopping easy for you by gift-wrapping your purchases. P.S. Make sure you mention you are from Cold Spring School at the register! K/1 Class NewsAfter measuring and comparing their three pumpkins, Laura and Becca’s K/1 class finally cut them open and scooped out all the seeds. There were hundreds in each one! The students counted the seeds by tens and ones and then used base ten blocks to add such large numbers. The large pumpkin had 626 seeds, the medium one had 607, and the small one had 384…for a total of 1,617! Brianna and Amy’s K/1 class finished building the Sukkah in the classroom. Next week the children will be taking turns eating under it. The class worked really hard making it. If you would like to see it please stop by between 8 and 8:30am. The two K-1 classes are sponsoring the Cold Spring School Food Drive. It will be begin after the Thanksgiving break on Monday, Dec. 2 and end on Friday, Dec.12. There will be a large donation box in or outside of each classroom. Please send in only non-perishable food items. Thank you. Preschool NewsThe preschoolers are very excited for their grandparents coming on Monday. They made portraits of them which are on display in our classroom. Students also made delicious pumpkin cupcakes with the fresh pumpkins in the classroom. The class had a great time making Mayan masks that are on display in the hallway outside of the classroom. Art Room NewsThe Art studio would like to request magazines with lots of pictures for collage projects, also any plastic coated wire for Galimoto projects. We are still accepting any toilet paper tubes for a printing project. There are two new exhibits in the school. In the hallway outside of Brianna and Amy’s room there is an exhibit of art work by Penny and Gretta’s 2/3 class. The children used oil pastels on board to create rectangles and squares with warm and cool colors after studying some of Paul Klee’s paintings. Also in the corridor on the first floor opposite the elevator is an exhibition by Josh and Becka’s 4th grade class. The children celebrated a birthday by making paintings of ice cream cones. They all used the same shape but had their own unique interpretations. It is a celebration a la mode and a la style of Andy Warhol, using a repeat of the same image. Thank YouLaura and Becca’s K/1 class would like to thank Phoebe Styron for making the Norton Bros. Fruit Farm video that was shown at School Meeting! Brianna and Amys K/1 class thank all of the cup washers including Owen, Simon A., Eliana and Julius. Thank you to Owen for donating a variety of plants to the classroom. Also, thank you to Yaco’s mother, Ingrid, and also to Luz for helping the class make sancocho. Dita would like to send many thanks to the Barrett family for donating all those pieces of wood for three-dimensional sculpture projects. Thank you to last week’s Wednesday morning baker, Tania Giacomini, and this week’s baker, Raksha Prabhulal, for providing delicious baked goods for the parent coffee following school meeting.
