We decided to create a butterfly and hummingbird garden to “see if we could attract them into the city”! First we researched the kinds of flowers that attract butterflies and/or hummingbirds. We decided to plant verbena, nicotiana, snapdragons, and alyssum (border plant) ( all are annuals) The raised bed was checked daily for both enjoyment and to see if it needed to be watered WE HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN BUTTERFLIES FLUTTERING ABOUT !!!!!!

Activity Simulation to learn about the task of thinning: all of the students stood very close together in the meeting space and were asked to imagine that they were nasturtiums or zinnias growing very close together in a pot. They would have one small glass of water to share….and they were so tightly packed that some were in shadow. Focus question – How long did they think they could survive like that? |
