Ancient Nordic people thought the tides were caused by the breathing of their god Tor. Now we know that the tides are caused by the moon's gravity. It pulls the water toward it creating a never-ending game of tug-of-war. The moon can raise and lower the tide from a few feet to forty-seven feet!

Causes of Tidal Currents

·
The reason why the water goes in and out during the day is because of gravitation from the moon.
· The tide goes up when the moon is close overhead. The tide will go up again when the moon is on the other side of the earth.
· This is why we get a high and low tide twice a day.

An ebb current is when the water is traveling the opposite way from land.  A slack current is when you see little or no movement at all.  A flood current is when the water is coming towards land.
