Quick Facts and Features

Our mission:

"Cold Spring School challenges children to become self-reliant, curious, and resourceful problem solvers with the academic and social skills to engage constructively and ethically in our diverse, changing world."

Cold Spring currently serves 140 girls and boys in Preschool through Grade Six.

Cold Spring School was founded in 1982.

Students come from New Haven and 10 surrounding communities.

Students of color make up 42% of the student body.

44% of the student body receives financial aid.

There are seven multi-age classrooms and one stand-alone sixth grade.

Every classroom has two full-time teachers.

All students, including prechoolers, study Spanish. Other special areas include Art, Fitness, Music, and Tinkering (invent & design, engineering, science, and math).

We have an intentional social curriculum that teaches children to know themselves, to take responsibility for themselves and their learning, and to be kind and compassionate community members.

We have a flexible drop-off in the morning from 8:00-8:30 a.m. and welcome and encourage parents to come into our classrooms.

We have an Extended Day option until 5:30 p.m. daily that is staffed by the same teachers students work with during the regular school day hours.

We have 175 full school days. There are no scheduled half days and all faculty meetings take place in the evening as not to impact student instructional time or families' schedules.

Vacation childcare is offered many days that school is not in session.
