All Cold Spring students, preschool to sixth grade, study Spanish. The program integrates the teaching of the language with an appreciation for the cultures of Spanish-speaking peoples. The Spanish teacher works closely with all the classroom teachers to include the thematic studies' topics into the children's Spanish studies.
For example, Cold Spring School's 4th and 5th grade students completed a unit study
on weather. As an extension to their regular classrooms studies, each student was assigned a city in a Spanish-speaking
country to track its weather for two months in Spanish class. As an end-of-the-unit
project in Spanish, 4/5 students created a video of a skit they wrote, acted, filmed, and edited of a mock Spanish newscast with weather reports.
